7 Powerful Bible Verses for Strength and Encouragement
Today I’m sharing powerful bible verses for strength and encouragement because let’s be honest, we could all use them!
Are you trying to find your own strength to push through each day but keep falling short?
What about looking at manifestation or willpower to overcome difficult situations and picture your perfect future?
I’d venture to say most of us have been there and unknowingly are still there at times.
From a girl who used to say “God if you are even real” when I prayed, I get it. We all come from different backgrounds and the way we push through adversity is different.
But today I want to point us back to the bible. We are going to look at bible verses for strength and encouragement that we can turn to in moments we need it most.
Instead of handling everything in our own hands, these bible verses for strength will help us understand what God is offering us when he offers us his peace.

7 POWERFUL BIBLE VERSES FOR STRENGTH
Note: All verses are from NIV
Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts in Christ Jesus.”
You probably thought you’d see a verse like this under a blog for anxiety and this is a great verse to get through anxiety but here’s how this bible verse for strength is applicable!
Have you ever felt anxious about a situation? Where there is anxiety, there is not as much room for strength. When God tells us not to be anxious, He’s not giving us an option- he is commanding us.
This verse also reminds us to present our requests to God. That means if we are needing strength, we need to specifically ask God for strength! God wants us to be specific when we are talking to Him!
The promise God is leaving us with here is that we do not need to worry once we present our requests to God. We can be thankful for everything and stay confident that God will move.
The peace that God leaves us with will wash away all our fears and leave us with the strength we need! We don’t always understand how this can happen but it does. This is why God’s peace transcends all understanding.
Rest assured, even in the most difficult moments, we can still feel God’s promise of peace if we release all our anxieties and fears to Him!
2 Corinthians 12:9
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
It’s important to remember that sometimes we are put in situations to become stronger. There are going to be times in your life that God won’t remove an obstacle and you’ll be forced to work through the feelings you feel.
Thought we don’t want to go through difficult times, those difficult times are how we learn to lean on God and grow.
This bible verse for strength reminds us that we can be proud of/in our weaknesses because it is God that is working through us to give us strength.
We know we never have to fight anything alone because we have God fighting for us. God’s grace and power is enough. It’s important to remember that as Christians, we are not “self-made” like this world boasts about. We are made strong in the image of Christ!
Through these great trials you are walking through, remember that this is what produces the great strength of God!
Isaiah 40:29
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
As Christians, this is a beautiful benefit we receive from our Lord- His strength! This is where humility is such an important quality for us to possess.
This bible verse tells us God gives strength to those who are weak. It’s important for us to come forward to God with our weaknesses. Instead of relying on our own confidence and wisdom for strength, we need to release this to the Lord.
We know we are weak without God, which is why we receive his strength! Those who find themselves strong enough, are not going to receive the strength from God.
Though we need to wait for the Lord to move, that doesn’t mean just sit around and wait. That means we need to actively seek God in all ways through the situation rather than just praying once and moving on.
Keep seeking the Lord for strength and He will provide!
Psalms 18:1
“I love you, Lord, my strength.”
What a short, powerful message. This verse says it all. If you are struggling to find the words to say or pray, this is a great verse to memorize!
The Lord is our strength when we need it and we can confidently rely on that statement.
This is also a great verse to recite at the end of a situation that the Lord delivered you from. This verse was written after David was wonderfully delivered from the Lord!
It’s important for us to remember that talking to God while we are immersed in a difficult situation is just as important as talking to God after we have been delivered. We can’t lean on the Lord only for strength but we need to give Him praise and thanksgiving as well.
Isaiah 41:10
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
This was the first bible verse I memorized! This verse is such a powerful reminder that God is with us through everything and we don’t have to take anything into our own hands.
Isaiah 41:10 is not just a statement God made, it is a command and a promise!
The command is to not fear and not be dismayed and the promise is that God will be with us and give us strength.
We need to remind ourselves of this important question- what more do we need if God is with us? The answer is simple, nothing!
When we forget the greatness of God, we are opening the door to become dismayed or distressed. But God says that he is our God and he promises not to leave us. We need to trust that God will follow through with His word as He has done many many times before!
God promises that He will hold us up – which means we don’t have to hold Him up! Our God is not a false God such as the idols we seek.
Trust that God will help you through the situation and seek Him to help you!
Psalms 46:1
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
Isn’t it beautiful that this Psalm starts with a praise of the Lord instead of the crisis the author is going through? This message is a beautiful reminder that God is the strength we need when in trouble.
Nothing can get us through troubled times such as the Lord. He is our refuge and strength which is why we need to stay in prayer and relationship with God.
If you feel God is not near you, I highly recommend meditating on God’s word, reading your bible, and sitting in peace. God wants to give you strength and help you through the situation you are going through.
If we want God’s strength and to hear God’s voice, we need to stay vigilant in learning about God and reading His word.
Nothing that this world can offer is stronger than the glory and strength of God.
Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
In this verse, Jesus is commanding us to come to Him. How comforting is it to know that you have someone to go to, no matter what time it is or where you physically are?
Instead of living in a ‘self-made’ mindset, Jesus is calling us to come to Him to relieve our pains and worries, He is offering us His rest.
The rest that Jesus is offering us isn’t a bubble bath, Netflix marathon, or dessert tray on your Stanley cup. Jesus is offering to carry our burdens for us, to take the heavy load off.
This is a form of self-care that isn’t talked about enough. Lightening our load and carrying less burden is going to free you and give you more strength than this world’s version of self-care ever will.
James 1:4
“Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
Boy is this verse not bittersweet? This verse is telling us to hang tight through difficult situations so we can learn and grow once it’s complete.
Have you ever just asked God to remove a situation or obstacle from your life so you don’t have to work through the difficult emotions it brings? I’m right there with ya.
But it’s through these difficult trials and tribulations that we become mature. The work of patient endurance is a difficult season to be in but you will come out stronger on the other side.
Something important I want to mention here, while you are persevering through a difficult time, continue to talk to God and believe in His word. These moments are where our spiritual character has the ability to flourish and grow more than we could ever imagine.
Stay patient and vigilant, it’s worth the wait.
I hope these 7 bible verses for strength and encouragement speak to you! Is there a verse that stands out to you? If so, reflect on this verse. Write it down, make a battle card and use it to guide you through troubling times.
