Though we might not want to admit it, this modern life we live in is riddled with anxiety and stress. Finding peace during stressful times can feel impossible at times but thanks to prayer for anxiety, we can overcome these times with more peace.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve tried everything in this modern world to reduce anxiety and get through stressful periods.

From self-care days to getting a massage to deep breathing, we’ve tried it all. But something that we often overlook during these stressful times is prayer for anxiety and stress.

Prayer is the most powerful tool we have to overcome anxiety, stress, and times of uncertainty.

Before we get into the 20 short prayer for anxiety I have for you to use to overcome your stressful times, I want to share a bit about my journey to let you know you aren’t alone.

I’ve had anxiety for as long as I can remember- physical symptoms like nervousness, shaking, sweaty palms, etc.

As I’ve gotten older and especially since becoming a mom, the anxiety has seemed to challenge me even more.

I’ve been through the nights of insomnia, the racing thoughts you can’t turn off, the thoughts of the ‘worst case scenario’ happening, and cancelling plans with friends and family due to nervousness.

The feelings and emotions you feel from anxiety and stress are likely normal and more people feel them than you think.

The single most important part overcoming anxiety for me, has been finding Jesus. This is a reminder that you are not alone in this.

The verse that specifically has helped me and I pray over consistently is Isaiah 41:10.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Here are a few other ways you can deepen your prayer for anxiety:

Journaling Prayers

Writing your prayers and thoughts is a great way to further reflect and overcome your emotions. Grab a notebook or your favorite journal and start writing your prayers and feelings down.

Praying Together

Prayer with friends and family can be a great way to deepen the experience. Not only praying with others but asking for prayers as well! Don’t be afraid to ask others to pray for you, chances are they would love to!

Deep breathing & Meditation

A great technique to deepen prayer during anxiety is to take slow deep breaths while meditating on God’s love for you. I will use this time to slow my breath down and visualize God’s love radiating down on me.

Trusting in God’s Peace Long-Term

The last thing I want to encourage is to trust in God’s peace and timing. Anxiety is overwhelming and has the power to consume your mind but through resilient prayer and trust in God’s goodness and peace, you can start to feel relief from the emotions you are feeling.

I can think back to times where I felt consumed and overwhelmed with the repercussions of anxiety and I remember the feeling of helplessness I had before I knew Jesus.

Once I started to pray and learn more about God’s goodness, I started to find true relief.

Does that mean I never struggle? Absolutely not. I still get anxiety and I still feel stressed! But the difference is that I am able to overcome it quicker and more efficiently.

God’s peace is available to you even when you don’t feel it immediately. Keep praying. Keep asking God for peace. Keep practicing gratitude.

Your relief is on the way!
